MENSUR ABAHIKA

Producer Profile

We are very excited to present two coffees from Mensur Abahika this year. Mensur's natural lot was the first-ever single-producer Ethiopian coffee we purchased way back in the 2020-21 season. Mensur is a member of the Tokuma group, a collective of farmers in Western Ethiopia who have organized to share knowledge with each other.

We had the pleasure of meeting Mensur and the other Tokuma members back in January. They are at the vanguard of traceability in Ethiopia and are able to export and market their own coffee under their own names-still a relatively rare occurrence in Ethiopia. This is the first year Mensur and the Tokuma group have exported washed coffee.

Jimma

This famous coffee growing region is known for its rich, volcanic soil. High altitudes, bi-modal rainfall patterns and dry weather which allows for coffee to develop slowly and consistently here.

74110

Short and compact with small leaves, cherries, and beans; Gibirinna 74110 is one of the most planted varieties in Ethiopia. The mother tree of this variety was selected in 1974 by JARC (Jimma Agricultural Research Centre) in the Metu province for its CBD resistance. After research and development by JARC, it was released in 1979 and recommended for planting in the altitude range of 1,500-2,100 masl.

Natural
