Un Regalo de Dios
Finca Un Regalo de Dios is located in the Dipilto-Jalapa mountain range in Nueva Segovia, Nicaragua and sits at a range of elevations between 1,350 m.a.s.l. at the "low" end, and 1,800 m.a.s.l. at the top. In total, the farm is 179 acres, with around 130 acres planted in coffee. Of those 130 acres of coffee, Luis grows the following varieties: Red & Yellow Catuai, Pacamara, Maracaturra, Java, Bourbon, SL-34, Catimor and some Hybrids. The farm is situated in the municipality of Mozonte (in the community of Quisuli) and the clouded forest creates a micro climate with temperatures ranging from 10 degree to 16 degrees celsius. Luis Alberto received 6th place in the COE this year, 3rd place in the COE in 2022, 6th place in 2021, 1st place in 2020, 1st and 5th place in 2018, as well as 3rd and 13th place in 2017. Clearly, he is no stranger to producing exceptional coffees.
Nueva Segovia
Nueva Segovia is one of only five coffee growing regions in Nicaragua, all of which are located close together in the northern reaches of the country. Neuva Segovia enjoys relatively high altitudes for Nicaragua, which help insulate it from the suboptimal weather and heat that predominate in the country's lower altitude regions.
SL34
SL34 is one of the most sought after coffee varieties in Kenya, and in consuming countries has essentially become synonymous with quality Kenyan coffee. In recent years, we have been seeing more Kenyan offerings include the hybrid Ruiru 11 and Batian varieties as they are more resistant to rust. However, we have been seeing SL28 and SL34 show up on quality focused farms in Central America. Particularly in Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Honduras.
Natural
The coffee undergoes careful picking, is then floated and taken to Beneficio Las Segovias to be laid on African beds to dry for between 25-30 days..
