Tuma Tesso

Producer Profile

Tuma Tesso is our final Jimma lot of the '24-'25 Ethiopian harvest season. This lot comes to us from the Atoma washing station, which is owned and operated by Mike Mamo. We have we have been buying coffee from Mike's company Addis Exporter for five years. They separate and name their lots after the kebele where the coffee was grown. This is our first year buying coffee from the Tuma Tesso, a very remote kebele in the Gera zone. It is so remote that it does not have access to electricity. The producers of Tuma Tesso deliver their cherry to Atoma station by horseback, often making two deliveries per harvest.

Brewing Tuma Tesso

Recommended Use:  FILTER

Where to Grind: Start at a coarse setting within our recommended grind range*

*Refer to our Grind & Brew Guide for recipes and grind setting ranges tailored to specific grinders and brewers.

For best results we recommend resting your filter coffee for two to three weeks post-roast before brewing.

Jimma

Jimma, located in Southwestern Ethiopia is the fourth largest coffee producing region by volume. Altitudes range from 1,400 to 2,200 masl. Much of coffee growing in Jimma takes place in semi-forested gardens, and the traditional sun-dried natural process is by far the most common processing method in the region.

Gibirinna & Serto

Short and compact with small leaves, cherries, and beans; Gibirinna 74110 is one of the most planted varieties in Ethiopia. The mother tree of this variety was selected in 1974 by JARC (Jimma Agricultural Research Centre) in the Metu province for its CBD resistance. After research and development by JARC, it was released in 1979 and recommended for planting in the altitude range of 1,500-2,100 masl.

Serto 74112 is one of six selections that were approved for release in 1974 as part of a CBD-resistance (Coffee Berry Disease) selection program. During the 1970's, researchers from the Jimma Agricultural Research Centre searched the forests in the Illuababora zone for CBD-resistant mother trees. Today 74112 has been widely distributed across most growing regions in the country.
