Bogalech Dukkale

Producer Profile

This is the fourth year we've purchased Bogalech's coffee and in fact, only the fourth year that her coffee has been separated from the larger community lots her coffee used to be part of. Our importing partner, Osito, asked Ture Waji of Sookoo coffee to consider separating the cherry of producers who deliver a large enough quantity to the station. Last year, and this year, we bought two such lots from Osito. Bogalech Dukkale is a 45-year-old mother of six. She and her husband oversee a four hectare farm that Bogalech inherited from her parents, who were also coffee producers. This season, we've opted to profile Bogalech's coffee for filter, the first time we've done so.

Brewing Bogalech Dukkale

Recommended Use:  FILTER

Where to Grind: Start at a coarse setting within our recommended grind range*

*Refer to our Grind & Brew Guide for recipes and grind setting ranges tailored to specific grinders and brewers.

For best results we recommend resting your filter coffee for two to three weeks post-roast before brewing.

Guji

This famous coffee growing region is known for its rich, volcanic soil. High altitudes, bi-modal rainfall patterns and dry weather which allows for coffee to develop slowly and consistently here.

Gibirinna

Short and compact with small leaves, cherries, and beans; Gibirinna 74110 is one of the most planted varieties in Ethiopia. The mother tree of this variety was selected in 1974 by JARC (Jimma Agricultural Research Centre) in the Metu province for its CBD resistance. After research and development by JARC, it was released in 1979 and recommended for planting in the altitude range of 1,500-2,100 masl.

Natural

Dried on raised beds for 21-28 days in very thin layers. The cherries are moved and rotated frequently to ensure even and precise drying.
