Getachew Zeleke

Producer Profile

Getachew Zeleke first began planting coffee in 2009 when he purchased land in Shakiso, Guji and started Tero farm.

This was te start of his company Dimtu. In addition to growing his own coffee at Tero he also buys cherries from outgrowers as a registered cherry buyer. Getachew also established his own washing station with a focus on producing high-quality specialty coffee from the Guiji highlands. Frustrated with the speed and quality of dry milling, he went on to build his own dry mill-therefore he now controls each step of coffee production from growing all the way to export.

Guji

This famous coffee growing region is known for its rich, volcanic soil. High altitudes, bi-modal rainfall patterns and dry weather which allows for coffee to develop slowly and consistently here.

Gibirinna & Serto

Short and compact with small leaves, cherries, and beans; Gibirinna 74110 is one of the most planted varieties in Ethiopia. The mother tree of this variety was selected in 1974 by JARC (Jimma Agricultural Research Centre) in the Metu province for its CBD resistance. After research and development by JARC, it was released in 1979 and recommended for planting in the altitude range of 1,500-2,100 masl.

Serto 74112 is one of six selections that were approved for release in 1974 as part of a CBD-resistance (Coffee Berry Disease) selection program. During the 1970's, researchers from the Jimma Agricultural Research Centre searched the forests in the Illuababora zone for CBD-resistant mother trees. Today 74112 has been widely distributed across most growing regions in the country.
