Habtamu Fikadu

Producer Profile

Habtamu Fikadu Aga founded his company, Kuri Mountain Coffee in 2015. The seeds of Habtamu’s career were planted by his grandfather Aaga Dinsa in 1945, when he started a farm in the Kuri kebele. Today, Habtamu continues to nurture the farm, which he has revitalized. In addition to the farm, Habtamu has built five processing sites across different regions, which serve about 144 registered outgrowers. This lot comes from Chelbesa, and boasts a big, juicy, and classic Yirgacheffe profile that blew us away on the cupping table.

Brewing Habtamu Fikadu

Recommended Use:  FILTER

Where to Grind: Start at a coarse setting within our recommended grind range*

*Refer to our Grind & Brew Guide for recipes and grind setting ranges tailored to specific grinders and brewers.

For best results we recommend resting your filter coffee for two to three weeks post-roast before brewing.

Gedeb

Gedeb is one of four coffee growing woredas (districts) in the Gedeo zone, which also includes the famous Yirgacheffe woreda. As in other Ethiopian regions, farm sizes here are very small, and they are planted mostly with JARC varieties.

Kurume & Wolisho

Kurume & Wolisho are JARC (Jimma Agricultural Research Centre) varieties. JARC developed these varieties in response to a devastating wave of Coffee Berry Disease (CBD) in the 1960s. These varieties were bred to be resistant to CBD.

Washed

Cherries are pulped and undergo a submerged fermentation lasting 48–72 hours
depending on temperature. After washing, the parchment rests in water for another 12 hours before being dried on raised
beds for 10–12 days. This careful and consistent method underpins the quality across all of Habtamu’s lots.
