Reshad Ababulgu

Producer Profile

Reshad Ababulgu is a second-generation farmer based in Agaro, Jimma. He took over the farm from his father 20 years ago, and the plot of land has been in his family for 60 years. 13 years ago, he replanted the farm with modern JARC varieties like Gibirinna 74110. Before gaining his own export license in 2022, Reshad has been selling cherry to Duromina. By striking out on his own, Reshad is able to secure high prices for his coffee and market his coffee under his own name. Reshad is focused on quality, with the goal of earning more money to support his family and community.

Jimma

Jimma, located in Southwestern Ethiopia is the fourth largest coffee producing region by volume. Altitudes range from 1,400 to 2,200 masl. Much of coffee growing in Jimma takes place in semi-forested gardens, and the traditional sun-dried natural process is by far the most common processing method in the region.

Gibirinna

Short and compact with small leaves, cherries, and beans; Gibirinna 74110 is one of the most planted varieties in Ethiopia. The mother tree of this variety was selected in 1974 by JARC (Jimma Agricultural Research Centre) in the Metu province for its CBD resistance. After research and development by JARC, it was released in 1979 and recommended for planting in the altitude range of 1,500-2,100 masl.
