Coffee is a precarious monoculture with a frought history. Professor of History, Stuart McCook, has specialized in unpacking the economic, environmental, and market forces that have shaped coffee’s current existential crises, as well as the race to cultivate a sustainable strategy forward.
In addition to numerous academic papers focusing on the history of tropical commodities, McCook recently wrote the book "Coffee is Not Forever: A Global History of the Coffee Leaf Rust" sparking features in news-outlets across the country.
