Our next release from the El Morito group comes from Lenin Flores. Lenin is both a grower and an organizer—serving as El Morito’s quality assurance lead while managing his own farm. Part of his work has been to foster relationships with farmers abroad, from whom he has varieties like Wush Wush and Pink Bourbon and—in 2026—will be the first to harvest them in the area, with plans to share seedstock across the network. El Morito began as a family initiative and became a formal producers’ association in 2022. At over 2000 meters, Lenin’s farm is one of the highest in the group, and his work—both agronomic and administrative—reflects El Morito’s ethos: invest in quality, share what works, and grow together.

Cajamarca
Cajamarca is the most famous of Peruvian growing regions. It sits on the border with Ecuador. The Eastern and Western Andes meet in the region, helping create distinct microclimates that are ideal for growing high-quality coffee.
Caturra
A natural mutation of Bourbon, discovered in Brazil in the early 20th century; Caturra derives its name from the Guarani word for “small,” a reference to its diminutive stature that results from a single-gene mutation causing dwarfism. It was this small size- allowing for more trees to be planted closer together- that led to mass selections of Caturra being made by the Instituto Agronomico (IAC) of Sao Paulo State in Campinas in the 1930’s. Caturra then made its way to Guatemala during the 1940’s and then was widely adopted in the 1970s by the rest of Central America, where it is now one of the most economically important varieties. At high altitudes Caturra has strong quality and yield potential but unfortunately, is quite susceptible to disease.
